Temporal Interval is Cullen Miller's first venture into the realm of releasing produced material. This release moves like skates on butter, smoothly out of control.

Cullen was born in Detroit, Michigan where he began playing piano at a young age. At the age of fifteen he began his foray into audio synthesis and experimentation with longtime friend and frequent collaborator, adino a.k.a. simple. At seventeen he began playing electric bass and not long after began his study of jazz. He continued his musical endeavors by learning string bass and studying under the Netherlands based composer and bassist, Chad Langford. He now continues to study classical and jazz theory with composer Shao Way Wu.

Cullen spends most of his time delicately crafting a unique brand of quirky, backwoods techno laden with deep hypnotic bass, subversive, clicky rhythms and avant-garde harmonies. He is currently residing and performing regularly under the moniker, Colour (ominous algorithmic dub), with Tarantula (live dubstep band), and various experimental jazz groups in Northern California.

This year's LoveFest, the largest electronic music parade and festival will include a three day conference featuring top music talent showcasing the latest gear and software. The organizers are seeking a motivated individual(s) to assist in hands on management of the event.

YOU should be motivated by music, be organized, be eager to learn, personable, good on the phone, able to clear your schedule for the three day conference on October 1, 2 and 3. If you have ever worked in or around a business conference, you go to the head of the line.

WE are some of the folks that bring you the largest electronic music event in North America, LoveFest. Dance music labels, vinyl lovers, and record shops are today mourning the death of one of the world’s biggest dance music distributors.

Intergroove UK, a distribution company that specialised in dance music vinyl and CD distribution, has gone bust.

The distributor, based in north-west London, supplied record shops around the world with tunes from a massive plethora of dance labels including Finger Lickin’, TCR, Adrift, Baroque, Four Twenty, Cocoon, Get Physical, Sex On Wax and Silver Planet.

Major Cog
It was, by all accounts, a major cog in the dance music distribution wheel, especially for the genres of house, techno and breakbeat.
An industry source said: “This is a major blow for the dance music industry, especially for small independent record labels, which relied on the company to distribute their tunes. Intergroove going bust has left a lot of labels out in the cold.”

Some have suggested that Intergroove going bust is the final nail in the coffin for vinyl, with 12in sales having slumped due to the onset of digital downloading.

With Intergroove gone, the only major dance music distributors left in the UK are Amato and Unique who merged earlier this year.

Abel Reynolds from Finger Lickin’, a major breakbeat label formerly distributed by Intergroove, said the closure of the company would have a knock-on effect.
“Intergroove has been very honourable in upholding their payments to labels,” said Abel.

“But as a result of the company closing, quite a few labels will go bust too, because they won’t receive payment for records distributed by Intergroove in the last couple of months.”

Breaks Labels
For example, Finger Lickin’ won’t receive any money for physical sales of their biggest record of the year – the D Ramirez remix of Plump DJs ‘Electric Disco’ - because Intergroove went bust before they could pay Finger Lickin’.
“The breakbeat scene will especially suffer, because lots of small breaks labels will go bust,” said Abel.

Sister SF & "feminism" & "preaching to the choir"

i posted this on my blog yesterday, and it has been on my mind quite a bit today,
so i figured i'd open it up for discussion here as well.

This morning i received an email from a friend of mine, who took pretty serious issue with my Dragnet posting. i guess i felt surprised at first, but then accepted it as an opportunity for dialogue & decided to share it here, in case anyone would like to add their thoughts.

I hate to be evil here, but if you guys are so concerned with pushing a feminist agenda, and you openly admit it is unnecessary to do it here -- why not go someplace else & do it there? Why preach to the choir here?

Just imagine if a bunch of guys got together in SF and touted themselves as an all-male crew... "Brother" ...couldn't imagine it, cuz it wouldn't happen. There is virtually no male pride in SF, unless one happens to be flaming gay.

I'm just saying, if you want to look "political" you should probably go to a place where gender wars still exist... ...which is, admittedly, most of the world.

But not here. Here it (Sister) seems like a tired gimmick (which, surely, will still suck in a lot of the laggers, but is that really what U are trying 2doo...?)

Personally, when I am listening to a musician, I'm not paying attention to the gender -- I am listening to the sounds... ...if we are to be equal, it has to come from both sides.

Just because female djs have it better here than anywhere else in the world [which becomes quickly apparent when playing out of state], doesn't mean there is no work left to be done here. in fact, we've come so far that it is easy to forget that we still have a ways to go.

if it wasn't for my exposure to less female-friendly environments, i probably wouldn't be as aware of the subtle ways in which SF still treats female djs with less respect: women are still objectified. women still get paid less. women still have to work harder to get booked.

again, it may *seem* like a superfluous thing but it is, in fact, not.

also, sister is hardly pushing a *feminist* agenda. unless you believe that creating a space for up and coming female djs, providing a website that is filled with djing resources, and throwing an annual drag party are considered feminist.

this is not about being anti-male. it is about being pro-female. and, considering the hundreds of emails we receive from women all over the globe, as well as locally, we feel it is worth the effort.

finally, i appreciate that your appreciation of a performer is solely linked to the music, not the person, what ever shape, sex, gender they are. not everybody is like you, unfortunately.

many people will still pack 1015 folsom to "hear" a topless dj trainwreck all night. the Nitevibe dreamteam had not a single woman in there. i could go on.

our drag party is a very special event: it is both a celebration of our 9 years of being a crew. it is also a celebration of those guys in the scene who have supported us throughout the years. because without them, we wouldn't have come nearly as far as we have.

call it what you will.

you call it a gimmick.

to me, it's a reminder.

i hope you're enjoying the summer so far.

Sister has been pushing the envelope of electronic music in a city that is pushing the envelope of electronic music for 9 years. Moreover, Sister has spent these 9 years working hard to help create a space for female artists in this industry. Anyways, our annual drag event is a celebration of those 9 years of Sister SF: it happens to be the one occasion when we invite guys to perform at a Sister event, and they will do so in drag. To make it extra special, we are inviting one special female guest--one of our Sister NYC counterparts & good friend: DJ ICON!

TONITE-we are wrapping gifts, putting together presents, organizing an all out effort to give back to our SF community tomorrow...and we need YOU. This event is really an amazing display of love, generousity, gratitude, and the essence of what giving back to your community is all about, and I would love to share it with all of you.

Please join us, if even for a few hours today or tomorrow.

Come join us this year to help distribute the spirit of the holiday season to families that would otherwise go without during this special time of year. The Day of Giving is an opportunity for the community, our volunteers, donors, and our children’s parents to work together by giving back to their community during the holiday season.

THE NORTH POLE-
Friday Dec 16th, 6pm- 9pm: Friday evening, all our elves will be wrapping and organizing gifts for the children/families.

What to bring: For all volunteers, we are counting on your generous donations of wrapping paper, tape, bows, ribbons, labels, tree lights, and tree ornaments. Please bring all wrapping donations with you on Friday, and all tree decorations either Friday or Saturday

Friday Location: 135 Clara St will be the Northpole location for this event! Clara St. is between Folsom and Harrison Streets, and 4th and 5th streets, south of market. Parking: There is a parking garage at 4th and Harrison.

Dec 17th The 3rd Annual Day of Giving

THE DAY OF GIVING-Saturday Dec. 17th 10:30am - 3pm
Schedule:
10:30-11:30: Meet at Northpole to organize in groups/family assignments, and pick up delivery locations

12:00 - 3pm: Deliver trees and gifts to families! We will be meeting after delivery at the Hunters Point Youth Park for the annual party/feast and photo!

3-4pm: Hunters Point Youth Park festivities (We encourage ALL volunteers to stay and join in this event with the kids)

What to Bring: In addition to delivering trees, we'd like to provide tree decorations for the families. For all volunteers, please bring a box or two of ornaments and/or tree lights.
